Toughness and hamiltonicity in almost claw-free graphs

چکیده
Some known results on claw-free (K 1;3-free) graphs are generalized to the larger class of almost claw-free graphs which were introduced by Ryjj a cek. In particular, we show that a 2-connected almost claw-free graph is 1-tough, and that a 2-connected almost claw-free graph on n vertices is hamiltonian if 1 3 (n ? 2), thereby (partly) generalizing results of Matthews and Sumner. Finally, we use a result of Bauer et al. to show that a 2-connected almost claw-free graph on n vertices is hamiltonian if d(u) + d(v) + d(w) n for all independent sets of vertices u, v and w.

A well-known and fundamental property of graphs is Hamiltonicity. A connected graph is Hamiltonian if it contains a spanning cycle. Determining if a graph is Hamiltonian is known as a NP-complete problem and no satisfactory characterization exists. Nevertheless, many sufficient conditions for Hamiltonicity were found, usually expressed in terms of degree, connectivity, density, toughness, indep...
متن کاملOn a Closure Concept in Claw-Free Graphs
If G is a claw-free graph, then there is a graph cl(G) such that (i) G is a spanning subgraph of cl(G), (ii) cl(G) is a line graph of a triangle-free graph, and (iii) the length of a longest cycle in G and in cl(G) is the same. A suucient condition for hamiltonicity in claw-free graphs, the equivalence of some conjectures on hamiltonicity in 2-tough graphs and the hamiltonicity of 7-connected c...

Thomassen conjectured that every 4-connected line graph is hamiltonian. It has been proved that every 4-connected line graph of a claw-free graph, or an almost claw-free graph, or a quasi-claw-free graph, is hamiltonian. In 1998, Ainouche et al. [2] introduced the class of DCT graphs, which properly contains both the almost claw-free graphs and the quasi-claw-free graphs. Recently, Broersma and...

متن کاملHamiltonicity in Partly claw-free graphs
Matthews and Sumner have proved in [10] that if G is a 2-connected claw-free graph of order n such that δ(G) ≥ (n − 2)/3, then G is Hamiltonian. We say that a graph is almost claw-free if for every vertex v of G, 〈N(v)〉 is 2-dominated and the set A of centers of claws of G is an independent set. Broersma et al. [5] have proved that if G is a 2-connected almost claw-free graph of order n such th...
